Annette & Brian

Annie, Brian & Dave
Brian brought his new favorite mescal; Del Maguey. not cheap, but he claims it makes you float.
Dec 25th 9pm. We camp in Anza Borrego, CA
hmmm.
I can feel my insides dissolving
All snug inside our TearDrop Trailer! (note lumpy ceiling, we are testing retrofitted insulation)
Dec 26th 2004. We had a great big old campfire last night thanks to the RoughWheelers, who left us plenty of wood!
Crossing the border from Calxico into Mexicali. We took the Bus & motorhome lane, but I don't know if we had to.
We have nothing to declare anyway
"No sir, we have nothing to declare." "any guns?" Nope" "ok, have a nice day"
3 minutes into Mexico & already the signs get confusing.
Brian & Annie let us catch up. The peso is about 11:1 dollar
Sunday wedding, the bells are ringing
cemetery
pretty busy at the cemetery
our turn is coming up. We will soon leave the pavement (Dec 26th, 1:25pm)
We make a U, then take the turn just after Laguna Salada because we're told the dry lake is too muddy to travel over.
We stop to air down off the pavement. 1:35pm
We saw a lot of dead cars in this area near town. I will be happier when we are farther from the border, and farther from town
2:40pm. Problem #1. The hood latch vibrates apart. No biggie.
It's a locking hood latch. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but it's sort of a hassle.
This road LOOKS just fine... But it's a killer. Washboard and more washboard. Everything is getting pounded.
Olive Orchard. Not sure if it's active or not
This is our turn! We already know it's sold out for camping, but we are hoping to get some helpful info
that little spike at the top middle is Guadalupe, of Canyon of Guadalupe
3:15pm and the sky is bright, but overcast
Louise took 3/4 of these photos, and she did a great job!
Last ranch before Canon de Guadalupe
We're at the Canyon! It's an oasis!
errr! it's all zooed out & busy.
I think they BBQ lunch here
He said that Rob is over here somewhere, or Mario.
Nice eh? :-)
Rob fixes my brand new map. He know where the roads really are.
Indian corn grinding holes!
Rob & Dave
Dec 27th 9:35 am. So we moved on and found this place. The map says Palomar.
It's also nice, but there's nobody else around for miles & miles
This is the hot spring. Those pipes carry the water to the pool
Brian & Dave shovel out years of old ashes. This thing really needs a clean up!
Ummm, we need a big hole to bury these ashes.
Dave makes a fire using flint & steel, some charred cloth, and unraveled twine. It works!
Dec 27 1:30pm. See the pool? It's not hot though.
We divert the warm water pipe for a shower
Annie reads in Palomar camp
Nice pool, even if it leaks a little. I can;t believe that they just leave the pipes all over the place though
Waether is still good, but the clouds are starting to roll in
We move the TD to a nicer location, nearer the center of activity
Dec 27, 3pm. Then we head out exploring for the day
We go north for an hour, but there are no canyons to explore that way.
So we turn around & go south
Animal trails are so well defined that they must be hundreds of years old. They are deep.
